Engraving is a decorative technique performed by means of chisels that scratch the surface of the object, removing small amounts of metal; while producing an effect similar to chiselling, engraving allows the creation of drawings, lines and crisp edges.
 
 
Embossing (repoussage) is the technique that allows the creation of relief figures and decorative elements of various kind on a metal plate, working with punches on the back of the surface, so as to obtain the positive decoration on the opposite surface.
