The a pibiònes, a rànu o a belteghitta relief technique is traditionally used in Sardinia for the production of festive artefacts, such as bedspreads and chest covers. Equally widespread and typical are the total-white bedspreads and the two-coloured ones, made with additional wefts of Sardinian wool, woven on a cotton or linen base fabric in a neutral colour. Brightly coloured artefacts are made with additional many-coloured industrial wool wefts. The a pibiones technique is implemented for the creation of flat patterns, either solid, half-solid or void, working additional wefts with the aid of an circular section needle, available in different sizes. The technique is often combined with others, such as the a briali or plain weave techniques, used to highlight flounces and decorative frames.
