Manual shaping is a term used to refer to the shaping of a clay artefact through the manipulation of the material without the use of additional special tools, except the finishing tools.
 
This technique, featured in all local traditional ceramic productions, has widely been used by potters since the beginning of last century, the time when the new concept of "ceramic art" started, combining aesthetic experimentation and decorative and functional aspects.
