For traditional productions in Sardinia, a vertical furnace used to be used, built by the same potters, rounded in shape and and without any roof. It was made of raw brick and coated with a mixture of refractory clay. The combustion chamber was divided into two parts, the baking chamber and the prefurnio, a basement equipped with a firing chamber and a mesh. In the firing chamber, artifacts were placed, stacking them in a circular pattern.
 
Depending on the load, the cover was then built, following the general shape, with thick rectangular tiles, ladiri mannu, made by the same craftsmen.
