Modelling performed by means of moulds can be made with different procedures.
One is pouring (colaggio) that involves the preliminary crafting of a negative mould of the desired object, usually made of plaster, followed by the casting of liquid clay. The clay gets more dense within the mould and the excess of water is drained off the compound.
A second method is pressing, that provides for a clay cast of the negative mould, pressing the material evenly. This procedure is particularly suitable for small objects and bas-relief decorations.
This crafting technique, found in all ceramic productions of local history, has widely been used by potters since the beginning of last century, a time when the new concept of "ceramic art" was launched, combining aesthetic and decorative experimentation with functional aspects.
